ESPRI Newburgh will host monthly meetings, beginning next Monday, January 29th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at 87 Ann Street to gather community-minded people living and / or working in the City of Newburgh impacted by poverty in an effort to discuss challenges and plans to help support the needs of all Newburgh residents.
“We’re inviting all City of Newburgh residents to attend these monthly meetings,” remarked United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region’s Rae Leiner, Director of the Anti-Poverty Initiative. “Your voice is important. Your opinion matters to help shape change that you and people in the community actually want! Please come out and join us, share your thoughts and opinions, but, most importantly, be ready to do some work!”
Each of the monthly meetings will be moderated by Javier Gomez, the ESPRI VISTA based in Newburgh.
ESPRI Newburgh is an initiative aimed at tackling issues of intergenerational poverty centered on the voices of the low-income community. From a six-hour Community Listening Session held last year on January 21st, to a community report-out held on September 21st, to monthly task force and steering committee meetings, this initiative has been informed by those who live and work in Newburgh. These monthly meetings are designed to continue engaging resident voice as ESPRI programs begin to be implemented in the city.
